A man is currently evading authorities following the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend during a domestic altercation in Kahawa West, Nairobi.
The police in Kasarani, Nairobi County, have initiated a search for the suspect, who is alleged to have killed his girlfriend before fleeing the scene amid allegations of a love triangle.
The incident occurred on November 1 at a residential apartment.
George Mutegi has been identified as a person of interest after the police discovered the deceased, Lilian Achieng’ Aluko, in his three-bedroom apartment, where she was found with multiple stab wounds.
Investigators retrieved a kitchen knife from the crime scene, which is believed to be the weapon used in the murder.
The accused is the son of the landlord of the property where both he and the victim resided.
According to neighbors, Mutegi confronted the woman over suspicions of infidelity, which she denied.
This confrontation escalated into a violent altercation, during which he allegedly picked up a knife and stabbed her multiple times, resulting in her death.
The body has been transported to a mortuary, pending an autopsy and further investigations.
There has been a notable increase in murder cases over the past three months, with police reporting more than 300 incidents, of which over 100 victims are women.
Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police, Eliud Lagat, reported that the incidents involving women occurred during September, October, and November of 2024. He described this trend as concerning and urged for measures to be implemented to tackle the issue.
“This troubling trend highlights the urgent need for focused action and collaboration to tackle the widespread problem of gender-based violence in society,” he said.
