A massive fire on Saturday afternoon gutted a multi-million-shilling property located behind Garden City Mall in Kasarani Constituency, Nairobi, sending thick plumes of smoke billowing into the sky and causing panic among nearby residents.
Videos circulating online show a raging inferno consuming the upper floors of a
ulti-storey apartment block, with dark grey and black smoke engulfing the building’s façade. In a particularly alarming scene, a high-voltage power line running adjacent to the structure was seen ablaze, emitting bright orange sparks and molten debris that fell dangerously to the ground.
The fire appeared to spread rapidly across upper balconies, seemingly fuelled by the proximity of the sparking electrical cables, raising fears of further escalation and posing a serious risk to both occupants and the surrounding electrical infrastructure.
Residents in the area were seen scrambling to safety, with some hurriedly moving their vehicles away from the danger zone while others watched from a distance as the flames intensified.
By the time of publication, no casualties had been reported. However, there was no visible presence of emergency response teams at the scene, and the cause of the fire remained unknown.
Local authorities were yet to issue an official statement or arrive at the scene as investigations awaited.
