Police in Nyamira County are investigating the mysterious death of a 53-year-old mentally challenged man whose decomposing body was found hanging inside his locked house nearly a week after he was reported missing.
The incident was reported on Saturday evening at Sengera Police Station in Manga Sub-County after the deceased’s brother raised the alarm.
He told police that his brother, Patrick Mogare Omariba, had been missing from his home in Nyakongo Village, Ogango Sub-location, since Sunday, July 26.
He became suspicious after passing by his brother’s house at about 6 p.m. on Saturday and noticing blood stains on the floor through the house, as well as a strong foul smell emanating from inside.
He immediately alerted police, prompting officers from Sengera Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Manga to visit the scene, about seven kilometres west of the station.
Investigators found the house locked from the outside with a padlock, while the windows were also secured.
Officers forced the door open and discovered Patrick’s body hanging from the roof with a mosquito net tied around his neck.
Police said the body, which was swollen and partly decomposed, had no visible physical injuries.
The scene was documented by crime scene investigators before the body was moved to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation and a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the death, including whether it was suicide or foul play.
And a 26-year-old man died after being electrocuted and his body was found hanging from a cashew nut tree in Dera area, Kilifi North Sub-County.
The incident was reported on Saturday, prompting a multi-agency response involving police officers, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), crime scene investigators and the Kilifi County Fire Brigade.
According to police, the team arrived at the scene and found the body of the man, identified only by his alias Ndoko, suspended from the tree.
The deceased, described as aged 26, had sustained burn injuries on his right hand and left leg, indicating he had been electrocuted.
The Kilifi County Fire Brigade retrieved the body from the tree before it was taken to the Kilifi County Hospital mortuary for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances that led to the electrocution, with a detailed report expected after further inquiries.
