Missing man found dead in river in Muhoroni, Kisumu County


Police in Muhoroni, Kisumu County, have launched murder investigations after the body of a man who had earlier been reported missing was discovered floating in River Nyando.

According to the police, the body was spotted by members of the public along the banks of the river at Kasboga Village in Wangaya 2 Sublocation.

Police said private divers were engaged to help retrieve the body from the river.

Family members who were present at the scene positively identified the deceased as Wycliffe Otieno Gori, who had earlier been reported missing on May 11.

Authorities noted that the body had multiple visible injuries, raising suspicion of foul play.

The body was moved to Ahero Sub-County Mortuary pending a postmortem examination as investigations continue.

And three people died in separate drowning incidents.

The incidents were reported on May 19 in Siaya, Kakamega and Kisumu Counties.

The bodies were retrieved to the mortuaries for autopsy and other procedures.

Such incidents have been on the rise in the past three months claiming more than 200 lives following flooding. Several families were also displaced in the incidents.

Many are still being threatened by the floods amid calls on them to move to safer places.
