Mob lynches suspect in botched robbery in Kasarani, Nairobi

A mob stoned to death a suspect after a botched robbery in Kasarani area, Nairobi.

The suspect is said to have been in the company of two other accomplices and were on a robbery spree when an alarm was raised.

Locals said the attacks took place behind the stadium on Wednesday evening before an alarm was raised alerting members of the public who responded there. They caught up with one suspect and stoned him to death as his accomplices escaped for their safety.

Police arrived at the scene and found a dagger lying next to the body and it is believed it was used in his killing.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending identification, an autopsy and investigations.

In Kimilili, Bungoma County’s Daraja Mungu village, one Moses Wanyama, 35 was stoned to death over claims of being a thief. The body with multiple injuries was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Pundits argue the rise of such incidents is linked to perception by the public that the police do not take measures to ensure their safety at large.

There is also a believe that the suspects will be released once arrested by the police or taken to court and later come to commit the same offences.

Police however encourage the public to surrender suspects for processing and action at large.

This is because most of the suspects are framed up and killed for selfish gains by some parties, police say.

Police have in the past arrested and charged suspects with serious offences after being involved in mob lynching incidents.

Meanwhile, officials at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport intercepted a consignment of miraa stashed in cartons of beans that were due for export to South Africa.

The authorities said they were pursuing the senders of the cargo. Export of miraa is banned to many countries but those behind the trend use many illegal means to do so.
