Mother, 3 children accused of hiring hitman to murder their own father over land

A shocking family tragedy has left residents of Bahati, Nakuru County, in disbelief, after a mother and her three children allegedly hired a hitman to kill their 73-year-old father.

The case has ignited public outrage and drawn attention to the darker side of family disputes over property in Kenya.

Neighbours in Shock

Neighbours described feeling stunned when news of the alleged plot surfaced.

According to locals, the family had been embroiled in a bitter disagreement over land, which appears to have escalated into a violent plan.

Joyce Wanjiru, one of the deceased father’s daughters, reportedly discovered him in his home with serious head injuries.

“We rushed him to the hospital immediately, but unfortunately, he passed away,” a relative said, struggling with grief.

Another witness described a disturbing scene outside the home, claiming that the accused mother and her children were feigning sorrow.

“They were crying, but it didn’t seem genuine. Even their tears felt forced,” the witness noted.

Evidence of Violence

Police investigations revealed two blood-stained wooden rods hidden in a pit latrine at the family residence, believed to have been used in the assault.

A granddaughter of the deceased disclosed that her grandfather had previously sustained minor injuries from earlier incidents, which he had tried to dismiss.

“They reportedly tried to poison him first, but when that failed, he started eating elsewhere,” the granddaughter said.

“The disputes over land had been ongoing for a long time. Every child wanted their share of the inheritance.”

The details suggest a chilling pattern of premeditated attempts on his life, escalating from subtle harm to a fatal attack.

Outrage Spreads Online

The case has sparked widespread reactions on social media.

Kenyans expressed shock, disbelief, and sadness over the family’s alleged actions.

Chirchir Kip commented:

“Kwa wagikuyu hiyo si maajabu… other communities pray for their parents to live long.”

Meggie Spice questioned the family’s display of grief:

“Why is that lady in red behind you laughing?”

A Pattern of Tragedy

This incident is not isolated.

Earlier this year in Bomet County, a similar land dispute reportedly led a 25-year-old man to allegedly kill his father.

Authorities continue to investigate such cases, underlining how inheritance conflicts can quickly turn deadly.

Calls for Justice

The Bahati case has sparked nationwide conversations about elder respect, family responsibility, and the dangers of letting disputes over property escalate.

Legal experts and community leaders are urging authorities to act swiftly and ensure support mechanisms are in place to prevent similar tragedies.
