The National Police Service (NPS) has announced significant changes in its senior leadership, involving key reshuffles at both national and regional levels.
A source at Vigilance House confirmed the changes, which involve the reassignment of several high-ranking officers to new roles.
Adamson Bungei, who has served as the Nairobi Regional Police Commander since November 14, 2022, has been recalled to police headquarters and appointed the Director of Operations.
In his new capacity, Bungei will oversee national operations within the police service.
His appointment to the Director of Operations comes after a distinguished tenure in Nairobi, where he was widely regarded for his leadership and efforts to improve security in the capital city.
During his time as the Nairobi Police Commander, Bungei played a pivotal role in managing the city’s complex security challenges.
He was known for his proactive approach to addressing crime, particularly in high-crime areas like Eastlands and Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD).
His leadership was marked by heightened efforts to combat terrorism, reduce urban crime rates, and increase police presence in the city.
He was also at the forefront of implementing major security operations, such as those targeting gang violence and illicit trade in Nairobi’s slums.
Before his appointment in Nairobi, Bungei served as the Baringo County Police Commander, where he gained extensive experience in managing security in a diverse and challenging environment.
His leadership in Baringo was crucial during a period of heightened insecurity due to inter-communal conflicts and cattle rustling in the region.
He also held the position of Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) for both Buruburu and Central Divisions in Nairobi, where he developed a reputation for being hands-on and results-oriented.
Bungei’s transition to the Director of Operations position at the NPS headquarters is part of a broader effort to improve operational efficiency and strengthen leadership within the police service nationwide.
His successor, George Sedah, the current Coast Regional Police Commander, will now take over the responsibility of overseeing law enforcement in Nairobi.
The reshuffling also saw Resila Onyango, the former NPS spokesperson, moved to the Diplomatic Police Unit, where she will serve as the Commandant.
Michael Nyaga Muchiri, who previously served as the Kiambu Police Commander, has been appointed as the new police spokesperson, succeeding Onyango.
These changes reflect the NPS’s commitment to enhancing the effectiveness of its operations and ensuring the continued development of its leadership across the country.
