In the caption accompanying her video, the woman expressed frustration, accusing the restaurant of failing to adequately assist after the alleged incident.

“@artcaffekenya do better!!! If a crime happens within your premises you’re supposed to help your customers!!!! Freaking disappointed!!! This was Hurlingham branch guys. Update: as per their reply I’ve emailed them the OB. Let’s hope for the best while the cops do their job and hope they actually assist the cops rather than be dicks like before,” she captioned.

According to the woman, the alleged incident occurred at the Artcaffé Hurlingham branch.

She claimed her husband was robbed while at the establishment, an experience she said left the family frustrated and seeking assistance from both the restaurant and the police.

She further revealed that after raising the issue publicly, Artcaffé responded to her concerns, prompting her to send them a copy of the police Occurrence Book (OB) report.

She expressed hope that the company would cooperate fully with investigators as police continue handling the matter.

The post resonated with many Kenyans, with numerous social media users flooding the comments section to share their reactions.

While many sympathized with the woman and her husband, others recounted experiences of losing valuables in restaurants, shopping malls, entertainment joints and other busy public places.

Some commenters claimed they had previously encountered theft or suspected criminal activity in similar settings, arguing that businesses should strengthen security measures, improve surveillance systems and respond swiftly whenever customers report incidents.

Others, however, urged restraint, noting that criminal acts can occur in any public place and that investigations should be allowed to establish exactly what happened before conclusions are drawn about the establishment’s responsibility.

The incident has reignited discussion about customer safety in Kenya’s hospitality industry.

Restaurants and cafés often attract large crowds throughout the day, making them potential targets for opportunistic criminals who take advantage of distracted patrons.

Security experts have long advised customers to remain vigilant in public places by keeping valuables within sight, avoiding leaving phones, handbags, wallets or laptops unattended, and immediately reporting suspicious behaviour to security personnel.

At the same time, many Kenyans believe businesses have a responsibility to support customers who become victims of crime on their premises.

This may include preserving CCTV footage, cooperating with police investigations and offering timely assistance where possible.

Artcaffé has grown into one of Kenya’s best-known restaurant and café brands, operating dozens of branches across Nairobi and other towns.

The chain is popular for its coffee, pastries, meals and meeting spaces, attracting thousands of customers every week.

Because of its popularity, any allegations involving customer safety are likely to generate significant public attention, particularly on social media where consumer experiences can quickly go viral.

Following the woman’s post, some netizens called for people to avoid visiting the Hurlingham branch until more information becomes available, while others maintained that one alleged incident should not automatically define the entire brand.

As discussions continued online, many users urged both Artcaffé and law enforcement agencies to ensure a thorough investigation is conducted so that the facts surrounding the alleged robbery can be established.

At the time of publication, Artcaffé had not publicly addressed the specific allegations contained in the viral Instagram Reel beyond the response referenced by the woman in her update.

The matter remains under police investigation, and the claims made in the social media post have not been independently verified.

The incident nevertheless serves as another reminder for both businesses and customers about the importance of security, cooperation and prompt action whenever criminal incidents are reported in public establishments.
