In a letter dated April 30, 2026, National Treasury CS John Mbadi directed the immediate removal of Ngirici from the board.
Former Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Wangui Ngirici has been removed as Chairperson of the Board of Kenya Seed Company Limited. This comes a day after she publicly made her political stand against United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Hon. Purity Wangui Ngirici has served as the Chairperson of Kenya Seed Company Limited and its subsidiaries since July 13, 2023.
“Article 97 of the establishing instrument provides the procedure for removal of a Director, while Article 98 empowers the Company or sponsor to replace and/or remove a Director,” read part of the letter addressed to Managing Director Sammy K. Chepsiror.
“In line with the above provisions in the Articles of Association, you are hereby advised to process the immediate removal of Ms. Purity Wangui Ngirici as Director and Chairman of the Board as appointed under Article 102 of the Articles of Association.”
The letter, signed by Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, also cited provisions within the company’s Articles of Association. The provisions outline the appointment and removal of directors.
Although the letter did not specify the reason for her removal, the CS instructed that the changes be effected immediately. The CS also indicated that further guidance would be provided in due course.
On Wednesday, Ngirici publicly declared her political shift. Subsequently, she announced that she had left President William Ruto’s UDA party, to support the Opposition.
She made the announcement at Kanjai in Ndia constituency, Kirinyaga County. She said, “This time round I have decided to listen to the people of Kirinyaga County. I will be where they want me to be.”
This comes amid heightened political activities in Mt. Kenya region. She is seeking to be the governor for Kirinyaga County again. During the 2022 elections, she lost to Governor Anne Waiguru, as an independent candidate.
