Nine-months-old baby dies after being burnt by hot tea in Gachie, Kiambu County


A family is mourning after their nine-months-old minor died following burns he sustained from hot tea in Gachie, Kiambu County.

The baby boy was in the hands of his parents who was also taking hot tea when it poured on his head.

He sustained serious burns and was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.

Elsewhere in Juja, Kiambu County, a body of a boy aged eight was found in the banks of Thiririka river after a suspected drowning incident.

It was established that the deceased was a grade two pupil at Dekoma Primary School and he was swimming with other children when he was suddenly drowned. The other children did not notice the incident until minutes later.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending other procedures.

Meanwhile, police are investigating an incident where a night guard was found dead at his place of work after a suspected suicide mission in Kaptembwo area, Nakuru County.

The victim identified as Shadrack Rono, 35 was found dead in a compressor room at the Bidco Factory.

His body was found hanging on a metal bar with a rope tied around his neck. The motive of the incident was not immediately established.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures, police said.

Suicide has of late been one of the leading causes of death in the latest worrying trend.

The World Health Organisation says such cases are attributed to joblessness, death, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties and financial difficulties.

Other reasons are bullying, previous suicide attempts, history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression and bipolar disorder.

In the police and other security agencies, authorities say they are exposed to many forms of trauma that lead some to suicide in a worrying trend.
