Passenger train fatally hits man in High Rise area, Nairobi


A man was hit and killed by a train in the High Rise area, Nairobi.

Witnesses said the victim was lying on the railway line when the incident happened.

Police said they are investigating if the man was on a suicide mission. The train driver said he hooted several times to warn the victim to leave the railway track in vain.

The train was headed for Limuru from Nairobi at the time of the incident on Tuesday morning, police and Kenya Railways said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.

Such accidents have been common on the railway lines and some were later linked to suicide missions, police said.

Meanwhile, a woman died after an abandoned quarry collapsed on him in Bondo, Siaya County.

Police said 63-year-old Margaret Achieng Ligondo had ventured into the quarry to scavenge for abandoned stones when the incident happened on Tuesday. The quarry walls collapsed as she was therein trapping her fatally.

The body was later retrieved and moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures.

Locals demanded that the owner of the quarry refill it for their general safety.

And police in Nyeri’s Majengo slums are investigating the death of a woman in a house.

The body of the woman was found in a house belonging to a casual labourer in the area.

The woman was not immediately identified. The owner of the house said he had gone to work and came back in the evening on Tuesday when he found the woman dead in the house. The door was open when he arrived at the scene.

It is not clear how the victim accessed the house and police said they are investigating the incident.

Police moved the body to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy. The body did not have any visible injuries then.
