Police have arrested a 26-year-old man suspected of involvement in a violent robbery targeting a women’s savings group in Saika, Nairobi.
The drama was captured on security cameras at the scene two weeks ago prompting public outrage.
The suspect, identified as Dennis Macharia, also known as “Mahua,” was arrested on Tuesday by officers acting on intelligence in Korogocho.
According to police, Macharia is linked to a robbery that occurred in Saika, where members of the Queen’s Women Chama were allegedly held at gunpoint during a meeting at a salon.
The gang is accused of robbing the group of Sh50,000 in cash and a Samsung mobile phone before fleeing.
During the operation, the officers recovered a red Shinery motorcycle, which investigators believe was used during the robbery. They also recovered two knives believed to have been used in the attack.
The recovered motorcycle and knives have been retained as exhibits.
Police said efforts are ongoing to track down the main suspect and any other accomplices believed to have participated in the robbery.
Police said they were pursuing good leads into the attack to arrest more suspects.
Robbery cases have been on the rise in parts of the city which has prompted swift actions from police.
The police have arrested dozens of suspects in the cases while others are on the run.
Some have been shot and killed in the confrontations that followed, police said.
