Police officer dies after falling ill at home in Meru


A 38-year-old police officer attached to Meru Police Station died after he reportedly fell ill at his home in Meru on Saturday evening.

 

Police Constable Abdi Tache, died shortly after returning home while reportedly intoxicated, according to police.

The incident occurred at Kawario Flats in Meru town, Imenti North Sub-County, at about 8pm on September 5, 2026.

Tache arrived at the house and asked for food. Shortly afterwards, he started vomiting before becoming silent while resting on the bed.

The officer was rushed to Doctors Plaza Hospital in Meru for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival.

His body was subsequently transferred to Meru Funeral Home, where it was preserved pending a postmortem examination.

Police said investigations were underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the officer’s sudden death.

The postmortem examination is expected to help determine the cause of death.

And police in Homa Bay have launched investigations after a 33-year-old woman was found murdered beside a road in Kasimba village, Rachuonyo South Sub-County.

The body of the woman, identified only as Winnie, was discovered on Saturday, September 5, 2026, by a passerby in Kasimba Sub-Location, Kokech Location.

According to police, Winnie had left her home at about 4pm that day and was heading to Andingo area, where she operated an eatery.

Her home was located about 200 metres from where her body was later found.

The discovery was reported to police by Kasimba Chief Pius Ayugi at about 1am on Sunday.

Police found the woman’s body lying beside the road with a cut wound on the right side of her head.

Police processed the scene as detectives began investigations to establish what happened to the woman and identify those responsible for her death.

The motive for the killing remains unknown.

The body was moved to Rachuonyo County Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination, which is expected to shed more light on the cause and circumstances of her death.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the woman’s movements between the time she left home and when her body was discovered.
