Police in Kiambu County have recovered a stolen firearm and multiple rounds of ammunition after an incident in the Magana area of Thika East Sub-County, where an armed suspect was assaulted by members of the public.
In a statement released on Friday, the National Police Service (NPS) said officers from Munyu Police Station responded immediately after receiving a report from the local administration.
Upon arrival, they found the suspect injured and recovered a G3 rifle, two magazines, 68 rounds of 7.62x51mm ammunition, several blank rounds, a penknife, and other related items.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the firearm is linked to an earlier case involving a missing police weapon within the Sub-County.
The recovered rifle and ammunition have since been secured and submitted for forensic and ballistic examination.
Detectives are pursuing leads to uncover the full circumstances surrounding both the earlier theft and the latest incident.
“The National Police Service appeals to members of the public to refrain from acts of mob injustice and instead report suspected criminal activities to law enforcement authorities for appropriate and lawful action,” the NPS said.
The Service also encouraged continued public cooperation in the ongoing efforts to recover illegal firearms and strengthen national security.
