Police upgrade assault case to murder after death of man attacked in Kisii village


Police in Kisii County upgraded an assault case to murder after a man who was allegedly attacked by a group of people over a domestic dispute succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment.

The deceased, identified as Ronald Asiago, reportedly came under attack on the night of May 11 while walking home from a neighbour’s funeral at Kabosi Village in Ibeno Location.

According to police, the victim was confronted by five men allegedly armed with pangas and rungus following a disagreement linked to a domestic issue.

He sustained serious injuries to the head and back during the assault.

Police said four suspects were arrested and later arraigned before the Kisii Chief Magistrate’s Court on May 15 in connection with the assault case. They are currently being held at Kisii GK Main Prison.

A fifth suspect remains at large, with detectives continuing efforts to trace and arrest him.

Ronald Asiago, who had been admitted to Nyangena Hospital for treatment on May 14, died on Wednesday morning while undergoing treatment.

His body was preserved at the hospital mortuary pending postmortem examination.

Police said the initial assault case was amended to murder under Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code.

And police in Kisumu County are investigating the murder of an unidentified boda boda rider whose body was found behind a building along Kibos Road in Kisumu East Sub-county.

The incident was reported early Wednesday morning after members of the public raised alarm over a commotion behind Dalu Building off Car Wash–Kibos Road.

Police said the victim, believed to be a boda boda rider, had several deep cut wounds on the neck. Investigators suspect he had ferried an unknown passenger who later turned against him in an attempted robbery.

According to preliminary investigations, a struggle ensued during which the rider was attacked with a sharp weapon and fatally injured.

The victim’s motorcycle was recovered about 200 metres from the scene. Detectives suspect the motorcycle was abandoned after it ran out of fuel.

The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital Farewell Home awaiting identification and postmortem examination.

The motorcycle was towed to the station yard as investigations continue.
