Over 75% of works are complete, including the refurbishment of the main house, staff quarters, ablution blocks, gazebo, and supporting infrastructure such as perimeter fencing, pavements, internal roads, and water systems.
To support transport logistics, the Kabunde Airstrip is receiving a major upgrade under the oversight of the State Department for Transport and the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA).
Key improvements include: Completion of fence repairs at both ends of the runway, 70% completion of runway extension, Ongoing refurbishment of the passenger terminal building, and construction of a new apron and taxiways

In a statement, the Ministry reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering a successful and memorable Madaraka Day celebration that not only honors Kenya’s freedom fighters but also reflects the unity and progress of the nation.
“We appreciate the support and cooperation of the County Government of Homa Bay and the local community as we prepare for this historic national event,” the statement concluded.
The 2025 Madaraka Day celebration is expected to attract thousands of Kenyans and dignitaries from across the country, showcasing the transformative power of devolved infrastructure investment and strategic national planning.
