President William Ruto has assented to three key National Assembly bills, officially enacting them into law.
The bills include the Births and Registration (Amendment) Bill 2024, the Pyrethrum Repeal Bill 2024, and the Social Work Professionals Bill 2023.
The signing ceremony took place at State House Nairobi and was attended by political leaders including Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula.
The Births and Registration (Amendment) Bill, sponsored by Martha Wangari, mandates the establishment of at least one births and deaths registration office in each sub-county, aimed at improving access to civil registration services nationwide.
The Pyrethrum Repeal Bill, championed by Kimani Ichung’wah, repeals the existing legislation governing pyrethrum and other strategic crops.
The new framework consolidates administration and regulation under a single coherent legislative structure, enhancing governance and oversight of scheduled crops.
The Social Work Professionals Bill, sponsored by Joshua Kimilu, establishes the Institute of Social Work Professionals and the Social Work Professionals Board, providing a regulatory framework for the social work profession in Kenya.
With presidential assent, the three Acts now form part of Kenyan law, marking significant strides in improving civil registration services, agricultural governance, and professional regulation, and contributing to the country’s broader national development agenda.
