Probe as cop is attacked and robbed of his AK47 rifle in Rongai, Nakuru


Security teams are searching for an AK47 rifle that was stolen from a police officer in Menengai area, Nakuru County.

The officer is attached to the Ngata police post. His colleagues said he was found outside the police post line with an injury in the head.

He had been attacked and robbed of the weapon by unknown people.

His colleagues said he looked confused when he was found on October 28, 2025 in the morning.

His rifle with 30 bullets was missing then. It is not clear how and where he was robbed of the weapon.

The officer was taken to hospital pending the search for the weapon, police said.

Elsewhere at Maguguni Patrol Base, Thika, a G3 rifle with 30 bullets was stolen from the armory in unclear circumstances.

A police officer reported that while patrolling the station compound and the area near the A.I.P.C.A. Church after hearing dogs barking, he discovered something unusual and noticed that one of the iron sheets on the armoury wall had been removed.

He proceeded to the armoury and found its padlock broken. Inside, the steel storage box had been opened, and a firearm and ammunition were missing after the October 29, 2025 incieent.

A search for the weapon is ongoing, police said.

In Mau Summit area, Nakuru County, a police officer was hit by a stone as he confronted a gang that wanted to break into a lorry and steal goods on transit.

Police had been informed of an accident on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway at Nyanja area involving a trailer and that a crowd was gathering there with an intention of stealing.

A team responded there and found a mob of about 200 struggling to break into the lorry and steal.

Police said the team tried to disperse the mob who responded with stones and twigs. One officer was stoned in the cheek and injured.

His colleagues responded by shooting to the air to disperse the mob successfully.
