PS Omollo hails women as pillars of family welfare and national development

Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo Sunday praised women as the backbone of strong families, cohesive communities and national development, urging them to continue taking a leading role in promoting education, security, healthcare and economic empowerment.

Speaking during a women’s empowerment forum in Nairobi, Dr. Omollo said women play an indispensable role in raising responsible citizens, supporting family livelihoods and nurturing future generations, making them central to the country’s social and economic progress.

He called on residents to work closely with Government administrators, including Village Elders, Assistant Chiefs and Chiefs, to strengthen community security and resolve emerging challenges before they escalate.

“Security begins with all of us. When communities work closely with Government administrators, we are able to identify challenges early, support vulnerable youth and create a safe environment for families and businesses to thrive,” he said.

Dr. Omollo said a secure environment is essential for economic growth and reiterated the Government’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability across the country.

He highlighted the ongoing Affordable Housing Programme as a key initiative aimed at improving living standards while creating employment and business opportunities for local communities. He encouraged residents to prepare to benefit from the housing units once completed, noting they will provide dignified living conditions with access to essential services such as water, electricity and sanitation.

On healthcare, the PS urged Kenyans to register under the Social Health Authority (SHA), saying affordable and quality healthcare is critical to family welfare and economic stability. He noted that ongoing healthcare reforms are intended to ensure Kenyans can access medical services without facing financial hardship.

Dr. Omollo also challenged women to champion education in their homes and communities, describing it as the most powerful tool for social transformation and economic mobility. He said the Government has allocated about KSh780 billion to the education sector and recruited more than 100,000 teachers over the past three years to improve access to quality education.

He added that the Government has invested in expanding education infrastructure, particularly in Nairobi, to ease overcrowding in schools through the construction of additional classrooms and expansion of learning facilities.

The PS further encouraged qualified women to pursue leadership opportunities within Government administration, including future recruitment for Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs, saying greater female representation would strengthen governance and public service delivery.

He commended the administration of William Ruto for implementing programmes aimed at expanding access to housing, healthcare, education and economic opportunities, saying the initiatives are improving the quality of life for millions of Kenyans.

Dr. Omollo reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to inclusive development and called on wananchi to continue supporting programmes that uplift families, empower women and accelerate socio-economic transformation across the country.

Among those present at the event was Phelix Odiwuor and other leaders.
