Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has raised alarm over what he describes as a suspicious surveillance incident, claiming he was trailed by an unidentified vehicle in Nairobi’s Karen area shortly before a scheduled radio interview.
Speaking about the incident, Tuju said he had earlier reported concerns to authorities after noticing he was being followed. “I noticed I was being followed before and reported it to the authorities,” he stated.
According to Tuju, the situation escalated on Saturday as he headed for an interview at Ramogi FM. “I noticed the same vehicle from before following me, only this time without plate numbers,” he said.
He explained that the vehicle’s movements mirrored his own, raising suspicion. “You drive, you slow down, they slow down, you overtake, they try to overtake. It’s easy to know when you’re being followed,” Tuju added.
Tuju reported the matter at Karen Police Station under OB number 21/21/03/2026, expressing concern for his safety. He further linked the incident to a previous encounter where multiple police Land Rovers, some without number plates, reportedly visited his residence.
Recounting how he escaped, Tuju said, “By the time I reached Karen roundabout, they had closed in. Fortunately, I know Karen well. I branched into Nandi Road and managed to lose them.”
He added that he later abandoned his vehicle and sought refuge. “I want to thank a family that gave me shelter without hesitation. They didn’t care about my tribe—they just saw me as a human being,” he said.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
