Ruto names Ababu Namwamba as Kenya’s High Commissioner to Uganda

President William Ruto made mini changes to the country’s foreign service, reassigning Ababu Namwamba as High Commissioner to Uganda.

In the changes, announced by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei on Wednesday, Ruto moved current High Commissioner to Uganda Joash Maangi to Belgium as Ambassador to the European Union.

“The changes are necessitated by vacancies arising from the completion of the terms of service of serving Ambassadors. The changes take effect immediately,” said Koskei.

Namwamba now moves to Uganda from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) where he was serving as Kenya’s the Permanent Representative following his appointment in January last year.

He also previously served as Sport Cabinet Secretary, before losing his seat when President William Ruto.

Ruto did not name the ambassador to succeed Namwamba at UNEP.

Uganda is one of the busiest stations for Kenya.

Officials said more changes are expected in the coming days.
