President William Ruto has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming Nairobi through the Nairobi River Regeneration and Engineering Works Programme, a flagship initiative designed to strengthen the city’s resilience, improve sanitation, and enhance its global competitiveness.
Speaking during an inspection tour in Lucky Summer, Ruaraka, Nairobi County, President Ruto said the programme aims to restore the polluted Nairobi River ecosystem while upgrading critical infrastructure to support sustainable urban growth.
He noted that the initiative will not only address environmental degradation but also position Nairobi as a modern capital of global stature.

The Head of State toured the completed trunk sewer line project in Lucky Summer, describing it as a key milestone in restoring dignity to residents and improving sanitation services in the area.
For years, locals have faced challenges linked to inadequate sewer systems and environmental pollution.
Authorities said the upgraded sewer infrastructure is expected to enhance public health, reduce contamination of the Nairobi River, and support future development in Ruaraka and surrounding estates.
The Nairobi River Regeneration Programme continues to roll out similar infrastructure projects across the city as part of broader efforts to modernize urban systems and improve the quality of life for Nairobi residents.
