President William Ruto has said his administration is steadily translating the rights guaranteed under the Constitution into practical benefits for millions of Kenyans.
Speaking during the 2026 Katiba Day celebrations at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi, Ruto said the government had spent the past four years implementing programmes targeting key sectors such as healthcare, housing, education, agriculture and devolution.
The event marked the 16th anniversary of the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution.
Ruto said the expansion of access to healthcare was among the areas where his government had made significant progress, noting that more than 32 million Kenyans are registered with the Social Health Authority (SHA).
“Over the past four years, we have been translating constitutional rights into practical benefits across healthcare, housing, education, agriculture and devolution,” Ruto said.
He also pointed to the government’s affordable housing programme, saying more than 274,000 housing units are currently under construction.
According to the President, the projects have also created employment opportunities, with an estimated 1.1 million jobs generated through the construction programme.
“More than 32 million Kenyans are registered with the Social Health Authority, while over 274,000 affordable homes are under construction, creating 1.1 million jobs,” he said.
Ruto further highlighted reforms in the agricultural sector, saying government interventions were aimed at increasing food production while making farming more affordable and profitable.
He said reduced input costs and increased productivity were helping farmers retain more income from their work.
“Our agricultural reforms are increasing food production, reducing input costs and putting more income into farmers’ pockets,” the President said.
Ruto argued that the initiatives demonstrate progress in making constitutional rights more meaningful in the daily lives of ordinary citizens.
“These interventions demonstrate that the promise of our Constitution is steadily becoming the lived experience of more Kenyans today than was the case before,” he said.
The President used the Katiba Day celebrations to reflect on the progress made since the adoption of the 2010 Constitution and reaffirm the government’s commitment to implementing its provisions through development programmes.
The anniversary brought together national leaders, government officials and other stakeholders at KICC to commemorate the country’s constitutional milestone.
