The Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) has commended the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) for modernising operations at the Port of Mombasa, saying the reforms have significantly improved efficiency and strengthened the port’s competitiveness as a regional trade hub.
Speaking during a courtesy call on KPA Managing Director Capt. William Ruto, RRA Deputy Commissioner General Innocente Murasi lauded the authority’s investments in technology and operational improvements, noting that they had enhanced cargo handling and facilitated smoother movement of transit goods.
Murasi said sustained efforts to resolve operational bottlenecks affecting cargo destined for Rwanda and other regional markets had boosted confidence among traders by making logistics more reliable and predictable.
“The progress achieved in resolving operational issues between the two States has increased confidence among regional traders and contributed to logistics that are more predictable and efficient,” she said.
Capt. Ruto reaffirmed KPA’s commitment to digital transformation, operational efficiency and customer-focused services aimed at accelerating cargo clearance and reducing vessel and cargo turnaround times.
He said close collaboration with regional partners remains critical in enhancing trade, supporting economic integration and maintaining the Port of Mombasa’s position as the preferred maritime gateway for East and Central Africa.
“Collaboration remains essential in supporting regional integration, expanding trade opportunities and positioning the Port of Mombasa as the preferred maritime gateway in the region,” Capt. Ruto said.
The two sides also discussed strengthening cooperation to improve port operations, enhance cross-border cargo evacuation and build more resilient regional and global supply chains, as part of broader efforts to promote trade and economic integration across the East African region.
