The experience helped him rediscover his interest in writing and eventually pursue filmmaking.

Filmmaking

Scott Ryan’s breakthrough came with “The Magician”, a mockumentary he made in 2003 while studying filmmaking at RMIT. Working with only about $3,000 and assistance from friends and family, he served as the film’s writer, director, producer, editor and lead actor.

The series developed a strong cult following in Australia and the United States.

After Mr Inbetween concluded following its third season, Scott Ryan turned his attention to new writing and film projects. He has worked on several screenplays, including the film “Everybody Dies” and was also developing other projects, including “It’s Coming This Way”.

In 2020, his growing international profile led to representation by Creative Artists Agency (CAA) after Helen Mirren and her husband, filmmaker Taylor Hackford, encouraged their Hollywood agent to watch Mr Inbetween.
