Several feared dead after Tahmeed Bus and shuttle collision in Machakos

Several people are feared dead following a late-night road accident involving a Tahmeed bus and a Naekana Shuttle at Konza City in Machakos County.

The crash occurred at about 11 p.m. on January 2 and involved a 19-seater Toyota Hiace operated by Naekana Sacco and a long-distance Tahmeed bus.

Images from the scene showed the Naekana Shuttle badly damaged, with its front section crushed, the windscreen shattered, and the roof partially collapsed—signs of a high-impact collision.

The vehicle veered off the road, with twisted metal and torn doors visible as bystanders gathered near the wreckage.

The Tahmeed bus was also forced off the road and came to rest on uneven ground.

It sustained visible damage to its front section, particularly on the driver’s side, consistent with the point of impact during the collision.

Following the accident, an urgent appeal was made for Machakos County Government ambulances and nearby emergency responders to rush to the scene.

County emergency teams were later deployed to rescue the injured and transport them to hospital for treatment.

By the time of publication, authorities had not released an official statement confirming the number of fatalities or injuries resulting from the crash.

The incident adds to a series of recent accidents involving Tahmeed buses. On November 13, a Tahmeed bus was involved in an accident along the Nairobi–Mombasa Highway, injuring several passengers.

Another crash occurred on November 9 at Nairobi’s Nyayo Roundabout, where passengers reportedly sustained injuries to the head, chest, and legs.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has continued to warn motorists and motorcycle operators against speeding, drunk driving, and using unroadworthy vehicles.

NTSA data shows that between January 1 and November 13, 2025, Kenya recorded 21,042 road crash victims, including 4,195 fatalities.

This represented a 2.6 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024, with notable rises in deaths among drivers, motorcycle riders, and pillion passengers.

Tahmeed Transporters is a regional long-distance bus operator serving routes across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, including Nairobi–Mombasa, Nairobi–Kampala, and Nairobi–Dar es Salaam.
