South C Member of County Assembly Abass Khalif stepped in to support all football teams in Lang’ata constituency that are set to participate in the upcoming FKF leagues. Khalif cleared registration fees amounting to Sh1,483,500 for all the teams.
In addition, he pledged to provide two sets of uniforms to each team as well as cover transportation costs during match days, ensuring players focus fully on the game without financial worries.
Speaking during the announcement, Khalif said his initiative is part of a broader agenda to promote sports, identify talent, and fight the drug menace among young people in the area.
“Our agenda is to promote sports in the constituency with the aim of identifying talent but also help in fighting drugs. Sports ensures the youth remain clean as they engage in the games,” he said.
The MCA emphasized that football is just the beginning, promising to extend support to other disciplines such as volleyball, basketball, tennis, and athletics in the near future.
He stated that the initiative aims not only to identify and nurture sporting talent but also to deter youth from drug abuse, adding that support will eventually extend to other disciplines such as volleyball, basketball, tennis, and athletics.
“We will support our youth in different fields of sport. We have started with football but this will be extended to cover other disciplines as well,” Khalif added.
This comes at a time when locals are pushing him to join the race for the parliamentary seat.
He has said he is consulting and will give the way forward soon.
