STAREHE MP HON. AMOS MWAGO MAINA CONDEMNS ABDUCTION OF YOUTH LEADER

Starehe Member of Parliament, Hon. Amos Mwago Maina, has strongly condemned the shocking and inhumane abduction of a prominent youth leader, Kawanjiru, which occurred shortly after his lawful release from court on Thursday.

In a sharply worded statement released today, Hon. Mwago described the incident as a “blatant disregard for the rule of law and fundamental human rights,” calling it a direct assault on the very principles of justice and democracy.

It is unacceptable that such an abduction could take place under the full watch of state security agencies, particularly the police, who are mandated to protect citizens—not to intimidate or suppress them,” he said.

According to eyewitnesses, Kawanjiru was seized by unidentified individuals believed to be state agents, just minutes after being set free by the court in Nairobi.

The motive behind his abduction remains unclear, but it has sent shockwaves through civil society and the youth activist community.

Hon. Mwago expressed deep concern over what he described as a growing trend of unlawful tactics used by government agencies to silence dissent, especially among the youth who have been at the forefront of calls for accountability and inclusive governance.

“This cowardly act paints a grim picture of a government increasingly resorting to fear, force, and unlawful tactics to silence dissenting voices,” he added.

Calling for immediate action, the MP urged independent oversight bodies including the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), and Parliament to launch urgent investigations into the incident and hold those responsible accountable.

“I call for the immediate and unconditional release of Kawanjiru and demand a thorough investigation into this disturbing incident,” he emphasized.

Hon. Mwago also had a powerful message for the youth of Kenya:

“Do not be silenced. The struggle for justice, freedom, and good governance is just, and your voices matter. Justice must prevail.”

The statement has already drawn widespread attention on social media, with many Kenyans echoing the MP’s sentiments and calling for transparency and accountability in state operations.

As pressure mounts, the country awaits a response from relevant authorities amid growing concern over the state of civil liberties and human rights in Kenya.
