Detectives in Migori County arrested a 35-year-old man in connection with the death of Opiyo Mbusiro, who died three days after allegedly being assaulted.
The suspect was arrested on Friday at Namba area following a tip-off from members of the public.
According to police, several witnesses had mentioned the suspect as the person who allegedly assaulted Mbusiro on July 26.
The victim later died on July 29.
A postmortem examination conducted on August 4 established that Mbusiro died from a severe head injury caused by a blunt object.
The suspect is being held in police custody as detectives continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding the assault and subsequent death.
And a 39-year-old man died from head injuries after allegedly colliding with a stationary vehicle along a murram road in Gatukuyu, Kiambu County.
The deceased, Francis Kamau Muiruri, was reportedly involved in the incident on August 5 at about 7:30pm along the Gatukuyu-Makwa-Ngethu murram road.
According to police at Gatukuyu Police Station, Muiruri was initially reported to have been involved in a road accident.
He was taken to Curafa Hospital, where he received treatment and was later discharged after regaining consciousness.
His condition deteriorated the following morning, prompting his family to seek further treatment at several medical facilities in Thika.
He was undergoing treatment for head injuries when he died upon arrival at Sam’s Hospital at about 5:54pm on August 6, according to clinical notes.
Police officers visited the reported scene and established that the vehicle involved was a black Toyota Voxy, which had been parked along the road facing Makwa.
The vehicle’s occupants told police that a passer-by had alerted the driver that a man who appeared drunk had allegedly hit the rear of the stationary vehicle before falling to the ground.
The driver reportedly alighted and, with the assistance of members of the public, placed the injured man inside the vehicle and transported him to Curafa Hospital.
However, when officers later examined the vehicle at the owner’s residence, they found no dents, damage or other visible signs suggesting that it had been involved in an accident.
Police requested that the vehicle be presented to the Kamwangi Police Station traffic department for inspection.
The deceased’s body was transferred from Sam’s Hospital to General Kago Mortuary, where it was preserved pending autopsy.
