Detectives have arrested a 36-year-old woman in Kitengela, Kajiado County, for allegedly posing as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and defrauding a client of Sh82,000.
The suspect, identified as Maureen Auma Andary, was arrested at Chuna Mall in Kitengela by detectives from Kitengela Police Station following intelligence reports linking her to alleged fraudulent activities.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), preliminary investigations indicate that Andary had allegedly been presenting herself as a qualified advocate and claiming to work with Wafula & Co. Advocates in Kitengela.
“The suspect was cornered today at Chuna Mall, Kitengela, by detectives acting on intelligence that she was posing as a qualified advocate and carrying out fraudulent transactions,” the DCI stated.
The investigation reportedly began on September 11, 2026, when the matter was reported to authorities after suspicions emerged over the suspect’s activities.
Detectives established that Andary allegedly obtained Sh82,000 from a client after claiming she would file applications relating to a case pending before the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi.
The suspect is now in custody as investigators work to establish the full extent of the alleged fraud and determine whether other members of the public may have been affected.
The DCI has cautioned Kenyans against falling victim to individuals who falsely claim to hold professional qualifications, urging members of the public to verify credentials before engaging service providers.
The agency further advised the public to confirm the professional affiliations of individuals offering legal services before handing over money or sensitive personal documents.
Investigations into the alleged fraud are ongoing.
