Suspected robber shot dead by police after attempted motorcycle robbery in Nairobi’s Kariobangi area

A suspected robber was shot dead by police officers following an attempted motorcycle robbery in Nairobi’s Kariobangi area.

The incident began Wednesday morning in the Dafur area, where a motorcyclist was allegedly accosted by two men riding a green motorcycle without a registration plate.

According to police, the two suspects brandished pistols and ordered the victim to surrender his motorcycle.

The victim resisted and raised an alarm, attracting nearby motorcycle riders and members of the public, forcing the suspects to flee towards Kiamako.

Police officers on patrol were alerted and launched a pursuit, prompting the two suspects to escape in different directions.

The officers pursued one of the suspects, who was reportedly fleeing in a white Nissan Dayz towards Juja Road.

The suspect was caught up in traffic at Kariobangi Roundabout, where police officers challenged him.

Police said the suspect defied police orders and wielded a firearm in an apparent attempt to shoot at the officers, who responded by opening fire, fatally injuring him.

Police recovered two firearms at the scene: a Falcon pistol loaded with two rounds of 9mm ammunition and a homemade gun capable of firing.

Two mobile phones, identified as Samsung and Momofly, were also recovered.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Starehe processed and documented the scene.
