Teacher drowns in river in Uriri, Migori County


Police are investigating an incident where a teacher was found dead after a drowning incident in West Kanyamkogo, Uriri, Migori County.

The victim was a teacher at Chief Kawasa Primary School and was identified as Douglas Okita, police said.

He is said to have drowned at river Onyani in Kajulu area. The circumstances surrounding the drowning were not clear, police said.

The body was retrieved and taken to a local mortuary pending other procedures.

In Tetu, Nyeri County, one Gerald Gachugu Muriithi, 75 was found dead in a man-made dam.

The body was found in the dam hours after he had gone missing.

Locals said they found his shoes and jacket at the edge of the dam and called for help when the body was found there.

Police said the body had an injury on the forehead and blood was oozing from nose and ears.

The motive of the murder was not known and the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

Cases of drowning have been on the rise in the past days. Police say they are investigating the cases.
