A teacher was robbed of Sh280,000 moments after he had withdrawn some of the money from a bank in Nandi Hills Town, Nandi County.
The teacher told police the incident happened after the suspected thieves broke into his parked car on Friday November 7, 2025.
He said he was to pay for a teachers’ conference to be held in Mombasa between November 8 and 13.
He had arrived at Nandi Hills town while in possession of Sh85,000 and later withdrew an additional Sh174,000 from Equity bank.
He added his own making it Sh280,000.
He kept the whole amount in his bag and proceeded to a local Shell petrol station for shopping leaving the bag in his motor vehicle.
He returned after five minutes only to find the passenger door open and the cash, a laptop, a cheque book and list of the members for the conference missing.
Police were called to the scene and processed it. The police are reviewing security cameras in the area to get more information on the same.
The police suspect the teacher was sold out in the bank of his close friends who knew about the transactions.
Such incidents have been on the rise amid efforts to address the same.
