A tense standoff occurred at the Busia border on Thursday after a human skull was discovered inside a passenger bus traveling from Rwanda to Nairobi.
The bus had stopped for a routine inspection at the border when the shocking find was made.
Eyewitnesses reported that the skull was neatly packed like a parcel, raising immediate concerns.
The bus driver and conductor were promptly questioned by authorities and later taken to the Busia Police Station to record their statements.
As news of the discovery spread, locals gathered at the scene, demanding an explanation.
“We don’t know who was carrying the skull or for what purpose.
We need to know the destination of the person who had it. The police should investigate and provide a detailed report,”said one concerned resident.
Another added, “The skull was packed so well, it looked like just a parcel at first. Murder is unacceptable.”
After the driver and conductor completed their statements, they were allowed to continue their journey, but the skull was left at the police station as investigations began.
Residents voiced their concerns about the possibility of human organ trafficking, with many urging authorities to tighten security at all border points.
“There could be people in Busia or nearby areas involved in such illicit activities. Security agencies should take action and prosecute those responsible,” one local stated.
This incident follows previous complaints from truck drivers about security issues at the Busia border, where thugs have taken advantage of traffic congestion to rob valuables.
The discovery of the skull has raised further alarms about potential criminal activities in the area, prompting calls for heightened vigilance by authorities.
