Detectives have arrested a third suspect in connection with a Sh1 million daylight robbery along the Shamakhokho–Serem road in which a woman was robbed at gunpoint.
The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Sammy Angwegwe, was arrested in the Esirulo area of Emuhaya following an intelligence-led operation involving detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), Western Region, Embali Police Station and DCI Hamisi.
The robbery occurred on October 19, 2026, shortly after the victim and her friend withdrew Sh1 million from a bank in Mbale. The money, which was intended for the purchase of building materials, had been placed in a shopping bag.
The two women boarded a matatu and alighted at Shamakhokho stage, where they hired a motorcycle to take them to Chemobo Village in Nandi County.
However, their journey was interrupted near Erusui Girls School when a white Toyota Probox suddenly blocked their way.
Four men reportedly emerged from the vehicle, two of them armed with pistols, and confronted the women before snatching the bag containing the Sh1 million.
The gang also made away with another bag containing the victim’s personal valuables before fleeing towards Serem Town.
Following the incident, detectives from DCI Hamisi visited the scene and launched investigations to identify and track down the suspected robbers.
The latest arrest brings the number of suspects in custody to three, with detectives continuing investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the robbery and apprehend other individuals believed to have been involved.
The suspects remain in custody as they undergo processing ahead of their arraignment in court.
