Two killed in head-on crash along Nairobi–Naivasha highway


Two people were killed on the spot and eight others injured after two vehicles collided head-on along the Nairobi–Naivasha Highway in Lari, Kiambu County.

The accident occurred on Monday, August 10, 2026, at about 11.30am in the Kariko area under Lari Traffic Base.

Police said the crash involved a Toyota matatu and a Suzuki Escudo.

Witnesses and police said the matatu was travelling from Naivasha towards Nairobi when it collided head-on with the oncoming Suzuki Escudo, which police said was overtaking improperly.

The driver of the Suzuki and an unidentified female passenger who was travelling in the matatu died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

The matatu driver and seven passengers sustained facial injuries and were rushed to Kijabe Mission Hospital for treatment.

Police said the weather was dry and visibility was clear at the time of the accident.

Traffic officers visited the scene and commenced investigations. The bodies of the two deceased persons were removed to the City Mortuary pending postmortem examinations.

The two damaged vehicles were towed to the police station and detained pending inspection as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
