Two-year-old boy dies after falling from 12th floor of a building in Eastleigh, Nairobi


Police are investigating an incident where a two-year-old boy died after falling from the 12th floor of a residential building in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

The incident happened on January 1, 2026 at about 4 pm at Darajo Towers along Muratina Road, police said.

The victim was playing with other children at the balcony of the building when he slipped and fell off to the ground. He died instantly after sustaining injuries in the head.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

Meanwhile, police and the Independent Policing Oversight Authority are investigating an incident where a suspect died while in custody after complaining of stomach pain at the Kinangop police station.

Joseph Maina Karanja who was arrested for the offence of breaking into a building and committing a felony had pleaded guilty to the charge and was remanded for 14 days till January 14, 2026 for mention.

On January 1, he developed complication and complained of stomach pain and was rushed to Engineer Sub County hospital where he died while undergoing treatment

Police said they are yet to know the cause of the death and the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

And a car wash attendant was electrocuted in an incident in Rodi, Homa Bay County.

Oliver Omondi, 27 was busy at work on January 1 when he was electrocuted at Rodi Township.

The man was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and investigations.

Police said the site had illegal power connections and investigations into the same were ongoing.

Kenya Power and Lighting officials visited the scene as part of the probe. Such incidents have been on the rise at car wash places amid a campaign to address the issue of wiring and power connections.
