A two-year-old boy died after accidentally falling into an open well while fetching water in Kakamega County.
The tragic incident occurred at Kalenda Village in Kabras West Sub-County, where the child is reported to have slipped and fallen into the well.
According to police, the incident was reported shortly after midnight by the child’s grandmother, Hellen Taliani.
Police visited the scene and established that the toddler had accidentally fallen into the open well. He was retrieved from the water, but had already died by the time he was rescued.
Police said the body had no visible external injuries.
The body was moved to the Kakamega Orthopaedic Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched investigations into the incident, which is being treated as an accidental drowning.
And two young men accused of attempted robbery have died after they were attacked by a mob in Chokaa, Kayole, Nairobi.
Police said one of the victims had initially been rescued by officers and rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital for treatment following the assault. However, he later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
The two were positively identified by their relatives as Byron Ochieng, 25, and Joseph Maina, 19, both residents of Chokaa.
Their bodies were moved to the Mama Lucy Hospital mortuary, where they are awaiting post-mortem examinations.
The deaths followed an earlier mob justice incident reported at Karagita Police Post on Sunday morning. Police have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident as authorities continue to warn members of the public against taking the law into their own hands, urging them instead to hand suspects over to law enforcement agencies for due process.
