U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke with Kenyan President William Ruto on November 7 to express gratitude for Kenya’s leadership in the Multinational Security Mission to Haiti.
During the conversation, Secretary Blinken commended Kenya’s effort in collaboration with Haitian Authorities to restore peace and security to the Haitian people.
The two leaders also discussed the Tumaini Peace Initiative aimed at fostering sustainable peace in South Sudan.
Blinken emphasized the importance of South Sudanese leaders fully utilizing the ongoing talks in Nairobi to reach a lasting peace agreement.
On the crisis in Sudan, Blinken and President William Ruto focused coordinating efforts to expand humanitarian access, halt the ongoing conflict and establish a process for restoring civil governance.
The Secretary reaffirmed U.S. support for efforts to address the humanitarian situation and bring stability to Sudan.
Additionally, the conversation addressed the situation in Kenya following the June-August protests which saw widespread unrest and reported abuses by security forces.
Blinken underscored the importance of continued engagement with Kenya’s public, especially youth, civil society and stressed the need for accountability for security forces allegedly involved in the violence and ongoing abductions during the protests.
Secretary Blinken reiterated the strong enduring ties between the people of the United state and Kenya reaffirming U.S. support for Kenya’s inclusive and democratic future.
