Authorities in Nyamira are probing the tragic death of a 22-year-old Chuka University student, Brian Mogaka, who reportedly died after being relentlessly beaten by his uncles in Nyankono village, North Mugirango Constituency.
Mogaka had been suspended from the university due to alleged involvement in cannabis use.
According to reports, his mother, Teresa Mogaka, sought the assistance of her brothers to discipline him.
In a disturbing turn of events, the uncles bound Mogaka’s hands and legs and caned him severely until he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Following his death, it is alleged that the uncles changed his clothes, placed him in bed, and scattered cattle pesticide nearby in an attempt to cover up the circumstances of his death before fleeing the scene.
Police from Ekerenyo station, along with investigating officers, arrived at the location on Tuesday night and transported Mogaka’s body to Nyamira Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Ikonge assistant chief Joseph Masese reported that the deceased’s body exhibited numerous bruises and injuries consistent with being caned.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek to determine the full circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
