Woman arrested after man stabbed to death in Umoja 3 rent dispute


Police in Nairobi have arrested a 45-year-old woman after a man was allegedly stabbed to death during a dispute over rent arrears in Umoja 3.

Dominic Mwangi Ndungu, 30, died after sustaining a stab wound to the neck during the incident on Wednesday night.

Another man was also stabbed in the chest and rushed to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, where he was admitted in stable condition.

The incident occurred at about 10:40pm in the Supa Loaf area of Umoja 3, within Mowlem Ward.

The incident was reported to police by a resident of the area.

Investigators said preliminary inquiries indicated that the stabbing followed a dispute over rent arrears.

The alleged murder weapon was recovered at the scene.

Crime Scene Investigators from Buruburu processed the scene before the deceased’s body was moved to Mama Lucy Funeral Home, where it is awaiting an autopsy.

Police also arrested Catherine Wanjiku, 50, the caretaker of the plot, as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the stabbing continue.

The two suspects were being held by police as detectives worked to establish the events that preceded the fatal confrontation.

And a 30-year-old woman died after a house she occupied with her husband was burnt down in Muroni Village, Mumias East Sub-County, Kakamega County.

The body of Rose Ochutsi was found inside the single-room mud-walled, iron-sheet-roofed house after it was reduced to ashes in the fire early Thursday morning.

The incident occurred at about 9pm on Wednesday after Ochutsi and her husband allegedly engaged in a fight while drunk.

The house was subsequently seen engulfed in flames.

Members of the public responded to the scene but were unable to put out the fire. Ochutsi was trapped inside and her body was burnt beyond recognition.

The crowd later turned on the man, accusing him of being involved in the incident.

He was beaten and sustained multiple head injuries before being handed over to officers at Malaha Police Post.

Police officers from Mumias East Sub-County visited and processed the scene.

Ochutsi’s remains were moved to St Mary’s Hospital mortuary, where they are awaiting a postmortem examination.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment and was later placed in police custody to assist investigators in establishing the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death and the fire.

Police investigations into the suspected arson and death are ongoing.
