A woman was found murdered and her naked body dumped in a river in Chuka area, Tharaka Nithi County. The body was discovered on Ruguti river on May 5.
Police said the woman’s head had a deep cut. It is suspected the woman was killed elsewhere and the body dumped at the scene.
Police did not know the motive. Locals failed to identify the body indicating the woman’s body was ferried from elsewhere and dumped there.
Police moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.
Elsewhere, in Machakos County’s Ndithini area, the body of 63-year-old Josephat Mutua who was found dead in a farm was retrieved after a standoff between locals and police.
The locals had refused to allow the removal of the body from the scene on claims that the team that arrived there for the mission was not professional.
The team left the scene on May 4 and returned the following day to pick up the body. The body was taken to the mortuary for other procedures.
The body was burnt and laid on a farm about a kilometer from his house, police said.
Police also said the body had been partially eaten up by dogs.
The man was known as a village elder and a pastor.
The motive of the murder was not immediately known but police said they were pursuing the matter.
Meanwhile, police in Nyatike, Migori County are investigating an incident where a miner was fatally injured in a mining shaft.
Police said Joshua Jagero, 32, was at the site when a loose stone fell off and hit him in the head fatally.
His body was later moved to the mortuary pending other procedures, police said.
Such deaths at gold mining sites have been on the rise amid calls on owners to ensure safety of the workers at large.
