Police in Seme are holding a 47-year-old woman accused of fatally burning her 12-year-old son after he allegedly stole sh.150 from her.
The horrifying incident happened in the Nyamgun area, where the boy sustained burns to 90% of his body.
Neighbors who responded to his screams rushed him to Kombewa Sub-county Hospital. Sadly, he died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment.
Authorities say the suspect, Jacinter Akinyi, allegedly poured kerosene on her son and set him on fire.
The child suffered severe burns to his upper body, hands, and groin.
Officers who visited the scene recovered a partially burnt shirt believed to belong to the victim. Akinyi has been taken into custody and is expected to face charges in court.
