Armed raiders suspected to have crossed from West Pokot County stole 61 goats and sheep from Nakw amoru village in Turkana County, as a woman was fatally shot in a separate incident believed to be linked to the livestock theft.
The raiders reportedly struck the village at around 4pm on Thursday, October 22, driving away 61 animals belonging to two residents identified as Tecla and Rhoda.
The suspects allegedly told residents they were taking the livestock in retaliation for an earlier incident in which bandits suspected to have come from the Turkana side stole cattle from their community.
The stolen animals were driven towards the general direction of Ombolion, prompting the deployment of a multi-agency security patrol team to pursue the suspects and recover the livestock.
In a separate development, a woman identified as Stella Edan, approximately 38, was found to have been fatally shot by unknown assailants while searching for wild fruits in nearby bushes.
Edan, a resident of Nakw amoru village was reportedly killed on Friday morning.
Police suspect the shooting could be connected to the livestock raid, although the circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation.
Her body was moved to the mortuary at Lokichar Sub-County Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Security officers have launched efforts to track down the suspected raiders, recover the stolen animals and establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
The incidents underscore persistent tensions over livestock theft and retaliatory raids in the Turkana–West Pokot border region.
