A 17-year-old boy drowned after a boat he and four others were using capsized on Tana River in Mutuobare area, Embu County.
The group was crossing the river from Thana Nzau in Kitui County to Kathenge village when the incident happened on Sunday, police said.
The survivors told police while in the middle of the river, their boat capsized. Four of those onboard managed to swim to their safety while the deceased identified as Kelvin Kioko, 17 drowned.
His body was retrieved and moved to the mortuary pending other procedures, police said.
Police said such incidents are common in the area. Boats capsize as locals use them to cross the swollen river from one point to the other for shopping and other errands.
Meanwhile, in Soweto, Kayole, Nairobi, police are investigating an incident where a 30-year-old man was stoned to death after he had attacked and injured his wife in a domestic feud.
The wife screamed for help and was rescued to the hospital where she was admitted in a stable condition. The locals then turned on the man and stoned him to death, police said.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending other procedures. Police discourage mob lynching and term it criminal.
They want suspects to be surrendered to authorities for processing and prosecution.
In Luanda, Vihiga County, a tout was attacked and killed by his colleagues in a feud over collection points.
The deceased was identified as Simon Kisekwa, 35.
Police said a group of touts differed on the point of collection of passengers leading to a confrontation. It was then that the deceased was hit by a blunt object in the head and died on the spot.
The body was picked up from the scene and moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.
Police said they were pursuing known suspects in the murder which happened on January 18 evening.
