Woman found murdered in Kirinyaga, husband arrested

Police are investigating a brutal murder after the body of a 45-year-old woman was discovered dumped by the roadside in Kutus, Kirinyaga County.

According to the police, the body of Ann Nyawira was found beside the Rukenya–Kabare road on April 13 after her murder.

Preliminary information show Nyawira had a domestic dispute with her husband on the night of April 11, 2026.

The disagreement reportedly arose after the husband attempted to sell the family’s only cow. She was not seen again until her body was discovered.

A close examination of the body revealed a deep cut wound extending from the left ear to the mouth, believed to have been inflicted using a sharp object.

Investigators who visited the couple’s home recovered several items believed to be linked to the murder, including a blood-stained panga suspected to be the weapon used, curtains with blood traces, pillows soaked in blood, and a pool of blood beneath the bed and on the floor. A blood-stained bedsheet was also recovered from a pit latrine within the homestead.

The scene was processed by forensic officers, and the body was moved to Kibugi Funeral Home for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.

The suspect has since been arrested and is in police custody awaiting interrogation as investigations continue.

Elsewhere, police in Kuria East, Migori County, launched investigations into a suspected murder after a night watchman was found dead inside a bar toilet at Kegonga Market.

The incident was reported by the owner of Homeland Bar at around 7:10 a.m. after he discovered the body while opening the premises for business.

Police visited the scene and found the body of a 48-year-old man identified as Mwita Kiburi lying in a pool of blood inside the toilet. The deceased had sustained a deep cut on the chin below the mouth.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident may have stemmed from a confrontation the previous night. At around 9:00 p.m., a group of about six men reportedly entered the bar and ordered drinks.

Trouble began at approximately 11:15 p.m. following a dispute over non-payment of the bill.

The scene was processed and documented by investigators before the body was moved to Wima Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

No arrests have been made so far, and police are pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the suspects involved.
