Popular podcaster and content creator Mwafreeka, the man behind the widely followed Iko Nini Podcast, is facing heavy criticism online after social media users accused him of being a disrespectful and overbearing interviewer.
The backlash erupted after Mwafreeka allegedly mocked activist and commentator Polo Kimani, claiming the young man showed up to an interview “smelling like a sweaty he-goat.”
The remark sparked outrage online, with many netizens branding the podcast host arrogant and insensitive.

The controversy has since snowballed into a heated debate about podcast culture in Kenya, with critics questioning whether some hosts prioritize clout and confrontation over meaningful conversations.
Polo Kimani, who had appeared on the podcast to discuss activism and the “leaderless” movement, did not hold back in a lengthy statement shared online.
In the emotional rant, he accused Mwafreeka of ambushing him with lectures instead of allowing him to express his views.
“Lakini this Mwafreeka jamaa from Iko nine podcast is Evil. Yani mimi I left my mjengo at 1pm, nikapanda matatu all the way from Thome to town, and then I take a nduthi to South B, so that I dont get late for the interview we had arranged in his shitty studio, so that atleast I can subtly explain to him what we were doing then because he was so much against ‘leaderless’ only for me to realize I had actually come to be lectured.” Polo wrote on Facebook.
Polo further claimed that the interview barely reflected the topics they had agreed to discuss beforehand, accusing the podcaster of dominating the conversation and refusing to listen to opposing views.
“Jamaa anaongeanga mingi na hatakangi kuambiwa, his opinion is final. I barely said anything. And infact what we talked about was barely anything we had agreed to touch on.” He added.
The activist also took issue with Mwafreeka allegedly reducing their ideological differences to insults about body odor.
“But his biggest comeback for this is telling me nilikua nanuka jasho. Mwanaume unataka ninuke vanilla unilambe haga ama nini? Surely!”
His blunt remarks immediately went viral, drawing mixed reactions across Kenyan social media platforms.
While some users felt Polo’s language was too harsh, many sided with him and accused Mwafreeka of developing a pattern of humiliating guests for entertainment.
Several netizens pointed out that the podcast host often interrupts guests mid-sentence and appears more interested in pushing his own opinions than conducting balanced interviews.
Others referenced previous tensions involving artists and online personalities who have appeared on the platform, with some suggesting that the latest fallout was not entirely surprising.
Polo also referenced rapper Rapcha the Sayantist, insinuating that disagreements over Mwafreeka’s behavior may have contributed to their fallout.
“He will insult you, indignify you, in the guise of ‘mi nabonga facts msee’ and wont see anything wrong. And then call you emotional for reacting to his Kiburi.” Kimani wrote.
The statement culminated in a fiery jab where Polo even joked that Mwafreeka’s controversial behavior might explain past misfortunes involving his studio equipment.
The incident has reignited conversations about professionalism in Kenya’s rapidly growing podcast industry.
As podcasts continue becoming one of the country’s most influential digital media spaces, audiences are increasingly demanding respectful engagement between hosts and guests.
Despite the criticism, Mwafreeka still commands a loyal fanbase who argue that his confrontational style is what makes the Iko Nini Podcast entertaining and authentic.
However, critics insist there is a thin line between tough interviewing and outright disrespect.
As the online debate rages on, neither Mwafreeka nor the Iko Nini Podcast team has issued a detailed response to Polo Kimani’s explosive accusations.
