Police in Kisumu County launched investigations after a decomposed body was discovered in a water canal at the Kabonyo Irrigation Scheme in Kadibo Sub-County.
According to police, the incident was reported at Rabuor Police Station on Friday, July 3, at about 5:10 p.m.
Police visited the scene at Kawino North Location, Kolal Sub-location, where they found the decomposed body of an unidentified African male adult.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the body was discovered at around 2 p.m. by an excavator operator working with the National Irrigation Authority. He told police he was carrying out maintenance work on the irrigation canal when he spotted the body lying in the water.
The scene was processed by investigators before the body was removed to Ahero Sub-County Hospital Mortuary for preservation, identification and a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched investigations to establish the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the death.
Elsewhere, police in Vihiga County are investigating the death of an unidentified man whose body was found floating in River Chava in Emuhaya Sub-County.
The incident was reported on Friday, July 3, after members of the public alerted authorities to a body floating in the river at Emakunda Village.
Police officers from Emanyinya Police Post, accompanied by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Emuhaya, visited the scene and retrieved the body.
The deceased is described as an unidentified male adult aged about 40 years. Police said the body had no visible external injuries.
The body was moved to Mbale Mortuary, where it will be preserved pending a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death and assist in the identification process.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
