Police Arrest Two in Meru Drug Bust, Recover Large Haul of Cannabis in Timau Raid

Two suspects have been arrested following a police operation targeting suspected drug trafficking activities in Timau Town, Meru County, as security agencies intensify the fight against the illegal narcotics trade.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), the operation was carried out in the Soko Korona area after officers received credible intelligence about a house allegedly being used as a storage and processing centre for cannabis.

A team of officers conducted a targeted raid on the premises, where they recovered a substantial quantity of exhibits believed to be linked to the illicit drug business.

During the search, officers seized 100 rolls of cannabis (bhang), alongside additional quantities of the drug at various stages of processing, suggesting the premises was actively being used to prepare narcotics for distribution.

Police also recovered five pairs of scissors, a knife and rolling papers, which investigators believe were being used to process and package the cannabis before it was supplied to the market.

The two suspects found inside the house were arrested at the scene and taken into police custody, where they are being processed ahead of their arraignment in court.

The recovered narcotics and other exhibits have been secured as evidence and will form part of the prosecution’s case as investigations continue.

Police have launched further investigations to establish whether the suspects are part of a wider drug trafficking network operating within Meru County and neighbouring regions.

The National Police Service said the operation is part of its ongoing nationwide crackdown on narcotics, which aims to dismantle drug supply chains, curb the distribution of illegal substances and protect communities, particularly young people, from drug abuse.

Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying intelligence-led operations against drug traffickers and urged members of the public to continue sharing information that could help disrupt the manufacture, storage and sale of narcotic drugs.

The National Police Service further assured Kenyans that it will continue working with communities and other security agencies to combat crime and enhance the safety and security of residents across the country.
