Woman, 58, killed while answering call of nature in Kwale


Police in Samburu, Kwale County, have launched investigations after a 58-year-old woman was attacked and killed by unknown assailants while she was answering a call of nature near her home.

Pauline Ushindi Mwanzara was attacked at about 10pm on Wednesday after she left her house and walked to a nearby bush, approximately 70 metres away.

According to police, the woman sustained four deep cuts on the left side of her head during the attack.

Police officers visited the scene and found that the woman had succumbed to her injuries.

The scene was processed and documented by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers as detectives began efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify the attackers.

The body was moved to Kinango Sub-County Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

Police have appealed for information that could assist in identifying and arresting those responsible for the killing.

And police in Bunyala, Busia County, have arrested a 16-year-old boy after an 18-year-old man died following a fight at Marenga Beach.

The deceased, identified as Elias Owino Odhiambo, was found unresponsive in his rented house at Marenga Beach Centre on Thursday morning.

Port Victoria police officers rushed to the scene and said preliminary investigations established that Odhiambo had been bathing along the shores of Marenga Beach at about 11.50pm on Wednesday with the suspect when the two disagreed over a bar of soap.

The disagreement reportedly escalated into a fight, during which Odhiambo was allegedly hit on the head with a rungu.

He was rushed to a nearby clinic where he received first aid before returning to his rented house, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police found cuts on the deceased’s forehead when they visited the scene.

The suspected murder weapon was recovered and the scene processed and documented by investigators.

The suspect was arrested and placed in custody pending arraignment in court.

The body was moved to Port Victoria Sub-County Morgue, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination.
